Dressing up as Minnie the Minx for halloween...
oh yeah.
Well, I was quite entertained by the BNP's appearance on Question Time. Simply due to human nature of course, the majority of BNP supporters who watched thought that ol' Mr Griffin did pretty well. Pretty well by their standards, I'll agree.
I have to admit that the criticisms from both panel and audience were at times quite self-indulgent, but as for Question Time straying away from the issues of politics... well that's an odd statement coming from a RACIALLY MOTIVATED political party. The BNP of course have policies not concerning race, but the fact that they maintain policies which DO is the very thing permitting them to be treated unlike any other political party. If they don't like that, they should suck it up and change their policies.
I didn't appreciate the language used by many newspapers concerning the even. One lesbian woman was said to have 'jeered' at Griffin that his 'feeling of disgust (for her) is mutual'. I would like to make it clear that she did not jeer: she was asked to voice her opinion by the host, and did so. She was in fact responding to Griffin's claim that seeing 'grown men' kiss in public is 'creepy'. Seeing Nick Griffin in public is creepy too- not even I'm suggesting that he should be imprisoned for it.
Should the BNP have been allowed to take the stand on Question Time? The sense of solidarity I felt whilst watching anti-BNP protestors, and those who so soundly thrashed Griffin on the programme, was extremely encouraging. I really hope that there were many people unsure of the extent of the BNP's policies who became, like myself, more confident in condemning them. Of course there have been negative consequences. But I think that the only people who could truly believe that the BNP's flagrantly racist, Islamophobic and homophobic policies could gain credibility from appearing on a TV show, are the kind of people stupid enough to follow them in the first place.
But Nick Griffin and his inept public speaking aren't worth wasting an entire journal on.
I've invited some representatives from Oxfam to come up to my school, in order to help us set up a Bearsden Academy Oxfam Group. I gave a speech encouraging people to come along during my year-group assembly (kinda scary) and the meeting now has a huge list of attendees! Should be great! I'm really looking forward to getting directly involed in Oxfam.

aww gutted, hope you feel better soon
*cough swine-flu cough* lol
It was pretty cool- we looked out for your tea-drinking weirdo friend but I guess he didn't go, it was basically all girls that showed up
They'd made sooo much food for the free lunch thing and there was tonnes left over, it was a shame you guys weren't there to help get rid of it all lol...
but yeah it was good, there were leaflets and booklets galore, and this MSP came in to talk (about how great MSPs are ...)
They were promoting this climate change march in december called The Wave, and recruiting people for Oxjam and stuff. A lot of it was about ways to promote ideas and actually get people interested in charity events. I'll write a journal entry explaining it better at some point
